Mobile Innovation has the Enterprise Content Management Markets Attention as Vendors Strive to Deliver(April 02, 2012)
London, ON (PRWEB) April 02, 2012
Info-Tech Research Group recently released Vendor Landscape reports on Enterprise Content Management (ECM) for both Process Workers and the Knowledge Workers. Ongoing consolidation and the rapid growth in mobile technology is disrupting the ECM market, according to the research firm.
Mobile capabilities are more important than ever for ECM vendors and their clients. Users are creating large amounts of content on their mobile devices as these devices become more sophisticated. All ECM vendors need to have the capability to bring this content within the enterprises control, said George Goodall, Senior Research Analyst, Info-Tech Research Group. Mobile innovations are underway in this market and consolidation is on the horizon as larger vendors acquire smaller vendors to gain mobile technology.
There is considerable overlap of both vendors and capabilities between ECM for Process Workers and ECM for Knowledge Workers. The largest vendors do both, but a small subset of vendors address the specific need of the process worker. IBM, OpenText and EMC ranked as Champions in both reports, while Laserfiche also ranked as a Champion in the ECM for Process Workers Vendor Landscape.
IBMs acquisition of FileNet has sharpened its focus on the ECM market. While traditionally specializing in process-centric solutions, IBM has been expanding into information governance and content analytics. With the highest score in advanced features, IBM has an incredibly broad set of functionality. According to the reports, theres very little this market Champion cant deliver.
As the largest pure-play ECM vendor, OpenText has recently seen growth through aggressive acquisition. With a strong vision for integrating mobile and social technologies into its solutions, OpenTexts offerings have functional depth that is compelling to many enterprises and has earned it the ranking of Champion in the reports.
Another Champion, EMC, offers a variety of solutions spanning all areas of ECM. Its core offering is Documentum, a product augmented by other acquired offerings including Captiva and Document Sciences. With extensive and international support, EMC Documentum has a very attractive document output capability, according to the report.
With an innovative iPhone app that allows for remote scanning, Laserfiche has gained traction in the industry by offering credit for enterprises to replace their existing ECM platforms. According to the ECM for Process Workers Vendor Landscape report, Laserfiches base capability and channel strength makes it a perfect fit for mid-market ECM needs and is recognized as a market Champion.
