Miranda Expands HD Product Line With HDV Interfacing

More powerful channel branding processors, and new monitoring and control systems (July 06, 2005)

Miranda Technologies (stand 8.241) will be showing multiple new HD products at IBC2005, including the award-winning HD-Bridge Dec HDV to HD-SDI interface, two new HD Imagestore channel branding processors, and two new Kaleido HD multi-image display processors.

Award-winning HD-Bridge Dec HDV to HD-SDI interface
Miranda's new HD-Bridge Dec provides high-quality HDV to HD-SDI 1080i/720p conversion. This neat and affordable desktop interface features a built-in crossconverter for effortless conversion between 720p and 1080i. The interface accepts HDV via an IEEE-1394 (iLink, FireWire) connection, and provides dual HD-SDI outputs: one clean feed, plus one feed with time code and graticule markers. The unit also provides analog HD plus AES and analog audio outputs. The HD-Bridge Dec is ideal for broadcast distribution and playout, with HDV content converted into uncompressed HD-SDI for playout using an HD-SDI infrastructure. The HD-Bridge Dec can also be used to convert compressed HDV into uncompressed HD-SDI for lossless editing.

Three new master control switching and channel branding processors
The Oxtel Series Imagestore range of HD/SD channel branding and master control switching processors has been strengthened with the introduction of three new products. The Imagestore HDTV, Imagestore Intuition HD, and Imagestore 300 processors enable broadcasters to output the most advanced HD/SD channel branding and promotional graphics with multichannel audio mixing. The new processors can be controlled by automation using the widely adopted Oxtel protocol, and by the advanced multichannel HD/SD PresStation or Presmaster 2 master control switcher panels.

The much-enhanced Imagestore HDTV has multiple new features, including a new dual DVE and an integrated, four-group audio mixer. The dual DVE option enables high-quality, dual picture-in-picture effects for compelling program junctions and promotional graphics. The new audio mixer provides 16-channel audio mixing using embedded or AES audio, and this offers an elegant solution for multichannel audio, including 5.1 and multilingual broadcasting. The processor also provides eight-channel audio storage for 5.1 clips, or stereo voice-overs in four different languages. Other features include animated/still image insertion, automated character generation, input switching, and A/B video mixing.

The new Imagestore Intuition HD coprocessor extends the graphics capabilities of Imagestore HDTV to allow the playout of the most compelling multilevel HD channel branding. The coprocessor can play out a virtually unlimited number of crawls, rolls, dynamic text layers, and still/animated graphics. Imagestore Intuition HD provides instantaneous, multilevel graphics playout, with timeline control for complex effects, including single-shot, in-loop-out, and multi-loop animations. Imagestore Intuition HD's advanced character generator is ideal for highly automated, data-driven applications and provides full creative freedom with respect to text styles, backgrounds, and the dynamic qualities of individual layers. "Smart" graphics template design is performed easily with Miranda's Intuition Builder software.

Imagestore 300 is a new SDI channel branding and master control switching processor that features dual 2D/3D DVEs, video and 16-channel audio mixing, eight-channel audio playout, automated character generation, and animation/still playout. The 2-RU processor has a highly robust design, with dual redundant power supplies, a mechanical bypass, and a LINUX real-time operating system.

Two new Kaleido HD multi-image display processors
Miranda has launched two highly affordable, pristine-quality HD multi-image display processors: the Kaleido-Alto-HD 10-input processor and the Kaleido-Quad four-input processor.

The new Kaleido-Alto-HD 10-input processor is an HD version of the successful Kaleido-Alto 10-input multi-image display processor, which features auto-sensing HD-SDI/SDI/analog composite video inputs. The processor accepts any HD format and 525/625 SDI, as well as analog composite inputs, to any of the 10 rear BNCs. The Kaleido-Alto-HD provides a high-quality DVI output with up to 1280x1024 pixels. Its feature-rich display provides embedded, AES, and analog audio-level metering, along with source IDs, tallies, aspect ratio markers, and clocks/timers. The easy-to-use processor offers off-line layout editing with a full choice of window resolutions, sizes, positions, and ratios (4:3 and 16:9).

The new Kaleido-Quad is a high-quality quad-split processor with auto-sensing HD-SDI/SDI/analog composite video inputs. Unlike conventional quad splitters, the Kaleido-Quad features flexible layout creation that allows different resolutions, sizes, aspect ratios, and positions to be displayed. The processor uses the same display technology as the top-of-the-range Kaleido-K2 to ensure pristine video quality. A feature-rich display presents audio-level meters, tallies, dynamic UMDs, aspect ratio markers, clocks, and timers. This HD capable quad-split processor, combined with inexpensive LCD monitors, is an ideal alternative to expensive traditional CRT monitors. An SDI/composite-only version of the Kaleido-Quad is also available.

Extended HD interfacing and signal processing range
Miranda has significantly extended its range of award-winning Imaging Series XVP HD cross/up/downconverter modules with a dedicated upconverter, a downconverter, and a cross/downconverter. These new interfaces all feature firmware that can be readily upgraded to provide additional signal processing functionality, thereby offering feature flexibility without a heavy up-front investment. Another new Imaging Series module is the affordable QXC-801i HD crossconverter, which offers interfacing between the popular HD standards, including 1080i and 720p.

Multiple new features for iControl monitoring and control over IP system
Miranda has also added multiple new features to its iControl monitoring and control over IP system, which enables operators to zero in rapidly on facility alarm conditions, even in the largest television systems. iControl has been transformed into a high-level Element Management System, capable of managing complex multichannel and multiformat television operations comprising hundreds of signals. The system uses industry-standard SNMP protocols for monitoring and control of video, as well as all the surrounding transmission, networking, and building infrastructure. A new Third Party Zone feature allows third-party applications to be hosted directly within iControl, and this allows one keyboard and mouse to control all the Miranda and third-party applications. Another key new feature is an autopilot capability that can guide operators through complex diagnostic and repair procedures, and even completely automate tasks.
