Microsoft Buys Creature House Assets

LivingCels, Expression sales on hold By Dave Nagel
Microsoft Corp. has apparently purchased some of the assets of Creature House Ltd., the developer of two creative applications--Expression and LivingCels--for both Macintosh and Windows systems.

At press time, neither company had responded to requests for information about the purchase. Creature House has placed sales and downloads of its software on hold for the time being, and a new copyright notice has appeared at the bottom of the company's home page. It reads, in part: "Microsoft has completed the purchase of certain Creature House assets. Please continue to check back at this website for further information regarding availability of the Expression and LivingCels products." No further details have been provided.

Last month, Creature House suspended sales of its software, saying that it was restructuring its download process, but with no mention of the Microsoft purchase. The suspension occurred just days after the release of the first public preview of Creature House's new animation program, LivingCels. This program is based on technologies pioneered in the company's flagship application, Expression, which is a 2D vector drawing and illustration package. Which assets Microsoft has purchased in this transaction is not clear. We'll bring you details when they're available.
