Microsoft Brings Window Media to OS X

Changes address professional and consumer needs; is it enough? By Dave Nagel
Microsoft today announced Windows Media Player for Mac OS X and demonstrated a prerelease version of the player at the Macworld Conference in New York. According to Microsoft, the new player will be carbonized. It will be a free download targeted for release this fall.

The carbonized player will support Windows Media Digital Rights Management and "the latest" Windows Media audio and video technology, Microsoft said in a released statement. For now, this means the Windows Media Audio and Video 8 CODECs.

The player will come with two additional skins, including a miniplayer skin for simple audio playback. It will run on most recent Macintosh models. For more information, visit
