Media Lab Releases AlphaMania 2 + Effector for Mac OS X

Package includes effects and automation tools for Macromedia Director By Dave Nagel
Media Lab has started shipping Mac OS X versions of its AlphaMania 2 + Effector Sets for Macromedia Director. The sets comprise cast members for Director that provide additional visual effects, automation and other capabilities. The package is available now for Mac OS 9, Mac OS X and Windows.

AM+ES includes a variety of enhancements for Director. In the area of utilities, it includes batch importing for PICT and Targa files, a Set FX interface for non-programmers, batch importing of Photoshop layers (with Media Lab's PhotoCaster 3), animation management and other features. For special effects, it includes flying masks for creating magnifying glass effects or X-ray effects; live drop shadows and glows; dynamic embossing; and pop-up menu functionality. Other features include:

  • Interpolated scaling and rotating;
  • 8-bit alpha-channel-only cast members;
  • 256 levels of transparency;
  • Live antialiasing;
  • Speed optimizations for real-time playback;
  • Additional Lingo functionality for controlling effects.

The AlphaMania 2 + Effector Sets package is available now for Mac OS 9, Mac OS X and Windows for $199. A cross-platform version runs $349. The upgrade to the Mac OS X version from the Mac OS 9 version sells for $49. For more information, visit
