Media Distributors Expands Into New York City MarketplaceNames Tom Evans Senior VP/Managing Partner - Eastern Operations (January 18, 2005)
Media Distributors, Americas preeminent distributor of professional media products for the entertainment industry, including videotape, film stock, recording media, and storage and data media products, has expanded into the New York City marketplace. Concurrently, the company has named former Sony executive Tom Evans as Senior VP/Managing Partner - Eastern Operations. Mr. Steve Klein, CEO/Founder, and Mr. Richard Myerson, President, Media Distributors, Inc., jointly made the announcement.
Media Distributors operations in New York will be spearheaded by Mr. Evans, from the companys new offices, located in west Chelsea, at 645 West 27th Street & the West Side Highway, in Manhattan. Mr. Evans will be responsible for all national marketing, strategic planning and business development for Media Distributors, and will also manage the companys entire Eastern operations based in New York City, inclusive of all related sales, marketing and operations activities.
Regarding Media Distributors entry into the New York market, Katherine Oliver, Commissioner of the New York City Mayors Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting, said, "It is a pleasure to welcome Media Distributors to New York City. New York offers filmmakers the richest talent, finest crews and best locations in the world, and Media Distributors will provide additional services to support our local production industry."
Regarding Mr. Evans association with the company, Mr. Klein said, ?This is a real coup for us. It also demonstrates to the entertainment industry that there is a strong, healthy multi-media marketplace in New York and worldwide.
Added Mr. Myerson, ?We see the New York media industry coming back in a big way, with tons of studio and indie films, television content, commercials and music videos being produced and post produced on the East Coast. About Tom Evans
Prior to joining Media Distributors, Tom Evans held the post of Vice President - Small & Midsize Business Marketing, at SAP Global Marketing New York. Previously, Evans spent 13 years with the US operations of Sony Electronics, Inc., headquartered in Park Ridge, New Jersey.From 2002 to 2004, he was Senior Vice President, Media & Application Solutions Division. As such, he managed all related marketing, sales, operations and finance functions for Sonys one-half billion dollar plus portfolio of branded and OEM recording media products. From 2000 to 2002, he was Vice President of Marketing, Media & Application Solutions, Business Solutions Company, for Sony. While there, he was responsible for all marketing and brand building activities for Sonys recording media portfolio, targeting the consumer, data storage and broadcast industries. After assuming that role, the division saw continued expansion of its number one share position in the U.S. with strong, increased profit contribution.
From 1996 to 2000, Evans was Sonys Director of Marketing, Professional Media- Recording Media & Energy Group. There, he managed all marketing activities in support of sales to broadcast, production and industrial audio/video markets. From 1994 to 1996, he was Sonys Marketing Manager, Professional Media- Recording Media & Energy Group, where he was responsible for marketing activities of Betacam and Professional Audio product lines. During 1991 to 1994, Evans was Sonys Promotions Manager, Professional Media- Recording Media & Energy Group, overseeing the development and implementation of all marketing/promotional programs and collateral materials, advertising and public relations activities, and trade show/sales meeting participation.
Prior to his work with Sony, Evans worked at the AGFA Corporation, Ridgefield Park, New Jersey, from l989-91, as Marketing Coordinator, Photo Division- Magnetic Tape Products. While there, he was responsible for developing market research methodology, procurement procedures and evaluation of market data for all relevant professional audio/video segments.
Evans is a graduate of New York University with a Bachelors Degree in Music, Business and Technology and remains an active performance and studio musician.
