Media Distributors Expands Green Partners ProgramCompany to Link with Green Media Solutions to Deliver Green Products And Services For the Production and Post-Production Indu (April 22, 2009)
DMN Newswire--2009-4-22--Media Distributors, a leading provider of services, systems, and products for professional audio and video production today announced that it has expanded its popular Green Partners Program to include a wider range of recording media and data media recertification for customers, particularly high-definition (HD) video recording media products. The company also announced that it will align with greenemediasolutions, a resource that provides environmental experts and industry best practices to help "green" the entertainment production industry. Now in its third year, the Media Distributors Green Partners Program covers more than 50% of the major facilities in the U.S. that conduct regular film and television production, offering an average of 40-50% cost savings on recording media stock. The program is an integrated customer service initiative through which Media Distributors, as a sole-source vendor, offers its clients a media stock buy-back and recertification program, named "MD Certified Media;" a unique clean-room recovery process; disposal, pick-up and delivery of stock; format migration and consulting, and format conversion services.
The company's film buyback and recertification services, film archive products production, data migration and barcode programs are helping to significantly reduce the "library-to-landfill" issue within the media industry. Today, it is estimated that there are nearly 1 billion professional tapes and data tapes with with content, globally - all are built using ABS plastic, metal and ferric oxide components, and Media Distributors offers cost-effective, eco-friendly alternatives.
"The costs of production and post-production today are affected as much by fuel and other carbon-intensive services as anything else, and our success with the Green Partners Program has shown that the industry needs as many resources for ?greening' production as possible," said Richard Myerson, president of Media Distributors. "Our alliance with greenmediasolutions and their partners will help producers understand the rich resources available to them for delivering green sets and off-set practices through recertified services."
The Green Partners Program involves a precise service for comprehensive recertification of media which includes multiple degaussing of media assets, along with end-to-end evaluation of the video asset, measuring and ensuring dropout rates comparable or better than factory-sealed media. The process is then finalized with a full physical and cosmetic inspection and removal of flaws, labeling and ink removal, a third degaussing, and final repackaging and shipping of recertified media.
"Through our advisors, and our industry outreach, we have developed best practices that provide support for sustainable procurement and disposal, and reduce overall environmental impact," said Katie Carpenter, co-founder of greenmediasolutions. "Working with Media Distributors, their Green Partners Program complements our efforts to offer producers a set of guidelines and resources for promoting ecologically sensitive productions."
greenmediasolutions recently supported the green production of the feature film, ?Away We Go,' from Focus Features. A full report on this case study is available at http://www.greenmediasolutions.net/PDFs/AWAY_WE_GO_SustainableFilm.pdf.
