Media Distributors Demonstrates Next-Generation Asset Management and Workflow Systems at NAB 2009Constellation VCM and Archive Station Provide Unprecedented Access to Media Files; Deliver Powerful On-Set or In-Studio Cap (April 20, 2009)
DMN Newswire--2009-4-20--Media Distributors, a leading provider of services, systems, and products for professional audio and video production will demonstrate a new class of media asset management and workflow systems at NAB 2009, in Booth #C10408 in the Central Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center. Media Distributors will conduct regular demonstrations of its recently-announced Constellation VCM(tm) asset management system and the Archive Station(tm) secure storage solution throughout NAB this week, April 20-23.
Universal Sports, the 24-hour Olympic-related and lifestyle sports network owned jointly by NBC Sports and InterMedia Partners, is the initial customer for Constellation VCM, which it uses for deep archival storage of video assets.
Constellation VCM is an integrated storage management and archive management system for professional video environments. The software system includes an end-user interface that offers full search, retrieve, and manipulation of video and project files, without touching the original video source content.
Archive Station provides automatic archive of professional video content, and is designed for both tapeless and tape-based workflows. The system is a fully-integrated single road case system that can be used for either on-location or in-house productions.
"There is a strong need for more efficient asset management solutions, and we have been working with some of our leading customers to deliver the kind of seamless value that Constellation VCM brings to the production and post-production industry," said Steve Klein, CEO of Media Distributors. "We can now deliver a massively scalable, intelligent asset management and workflow solution to our core entertainment and media customers that are far superior to any previous solution, at far more attractive price points."
Constellation VCM is the first video asset management system to leverage next-generation enterprise tiered storage techniques and is the first to include digital fingerprinting, to deliver a highly flexible, scalable storage and distribution system for a wide range of customers, from large-scale video rights holders to small production and post-production companies. The system easily conforms to the existing workflow of any organization.
A one button power-up solution, Archive Station provides production companies with secure back-up and rapid access to archived video content. The system enables play-out to either Blu-ray Disc or LTO media and provides for cloning on additional portable hard drives, for safe geographic separation of content. The Archive Station supports both Windows and Mac OS environments; captures all metadata included with video files, and maintains linking of project files from online to archive medium. The system offers full asset management support for all archived content, and supports both Apple Final Cut Pro and Avid workflows. Customers can use Archive Station to archive video directly from existing Firewire, USB or Serial ATA drives and can extend the system to work with additional online content on RAID, NAS, and SAN storage.
"Our customers have sought the most secure archival solutions for their assets, including on-location environments, and Archive Station is the ideal road-ready product for the most intensive video productions," said Richard Myerson, President of Media Distributors. "We wanted to design a system that is built to preserve our customers' best work, and would act as an automatic archive system for video assets. The Archive Station fully complements our Remote Station system, and integrates our recently-introduced Constellation VCM asset management software."
Using Constellation VCM, customers can conduct on-site video ingest (using Sony F23/F35, EX3, and Panasonic Varicam, DVCPRO and P2 cameras), archive, and editing – including color correction – and can automatically distribute to CD, DVD, or to digital delivery systems. Archive Station supports a wide range of formats, including P2, EX3, RED – utilizing CODEX Digital System; and fully supports ARRI, Sony F23/F35, Varicam, DVCPro and JVC Viper cameras.
Constellation VCM was specifically designed to manage video data and video file metadata, and the system recognizes and supports data from today's leading video editing solutions, including HDCAM SR, HDCAM, XDCAM, EX3, P2, RED, Codex, Apple Final Cut Studio, Avid, Pro Tools, and PilotWare. Constellation VCM supports all SAN, NAS, RAID, JBOD, and external drives. It also supports XSAN, Avid Unity, Blu-ray Disc and DVD library systems, and all tape drives and tape library systems. Constellation VCM supports a range of operating systems, including Windows 2000, 2003, Windows XP, Windows Vista, OS-X, Linux, and Unix.
The software also recognizes other standard video formats, such as mpg, wma, mov, and more. Once video file assets are ingested and cataloged within the Constellation Information Repository, user-configurable policies can then migrate and replicate the video assets to secondary, less expensive, storage, immediately generating a greater return on investment of storage resources.
