Media Composer 5 Feature Showcase Part 2

Smart Tool By Kevin McAuliffe

With Media Composer version 5, Avid is moving in not only a forward direction, but in a bit of a sideways direction as well.  What I mean by that is previously, Avid seemed to be oblivious to the fact that there were other editing applications out on the market that looked at editing differently.

Premiere Pro CS5 and Final Cut Pro are drag-and-drop editing applications.  This means that you can not only drag clips from the preview window and drop it into your timeline, but you now have an extensive amount of flexibility when dragging clips around in your timeline as well.

The only problem is that if you don't understand how the tool works, you are going to miss out on power that you didn't even know you have.

I like to sum this feature up by saying that it's one small step for an Avid Editor, one giant leap for everyone else.  For Avid editors,  It's an alternate way to work that you can use if you want.

For editors on other editing systems, this is a MAJOR step forward for Avid opening up Media Composer for any editor to sit down and get up to speed and editing in no time.  Now, it's no longer edit how Media Composer says you do, but edit how YOU want to.

This is a welcome new feature, and you can learn more about it at www.avid.com.
