Media Alert: BlogHer Joins Forces With Facebook, CNN, Cartoon Network and Other Partners to Stop Bullying"Stop Bullying: Speak Up" Campaign Launched by Facebook and Time Warner Outlets to Rally Online Voices to Stand Together, Speak Up and Pledge to Take Action if They Witness Bullying (October 18, 2011)
BELMONT, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 10/18/11 -- BlogHer, Inc. (www.blogher.com), the premium cross-platform media network and publisher for women, today announced it has joined Facebook and Time Warner as an official supporter of the "Stop Bullying: Speak Up" campaign.
According to an invitation to the BlogHer community from Dave Steer, Trust & Safety, Facebook, and Alice Cahn, VP of Corporate Social Responsibility, Cartoon Network, the campaign's goal is to inspire "the grand majority of people who witness bullying to come together as a community, take simple steps to help someone in need, and to create a culture that makes bullying -- and the drama that leads to it -- uncool."
"Bullying is a reality of offline life that has joined us on the Internet. Sadly, it's an all too common challenge for women who are online, including many in the BlogHer community," said BlogHer Co-Founders Elisa Camahort Page, Jory Des Jardins and Lisa Stone, in a joint statement. "By collaborating on this project with Facebook, Time Warner, Anderson Cooper, and other supporters, we hope to shine a light on the issue and help put an end to it."
Community members can take a pledge to take action when they see bullying occur, at http://www.facebook.com/stopbullyingspeakup, share it with their friends and family to spread the word, and post the pledge on their blogs as well. In addition, BlogHer and Facebook are encouraging the community to share their own stories of bullying, which will be shared on both BlogHer.com and on the Facebook campaign page.
