Media 100 Hires Steve Bayes Director Of Product MarketingLong-time Avid evangelist, designer and trainer joins Media 100 team (October 18, 2004)
Media 100, a unit of Optibase, is pleased to announce that digital nonlinear editing pioneer and long-time Avid product designer Steve Bayes has joined the Company as Director of Product Marketing. Bayes will apply his extensive real-world editing background and two decades of industry expertise including designing Oscar and Emmy Award-winning editing and effects systems to bring new sets of breakthrough creative tools from Media 100 to the marketplace. Products Bayes will oversee and roll out include Media 100s 10-bit HD and SD editing system Media 100 HD, new versions of the Companys 844/X real-time editing-compositing solution and future Media 100 products for Mac and PC.
Highly regarded in the community, Bayes is known not only for his contributions as a product architect, but also for his role in helping generations of artists learn new technologies and editing skills. He comes to Media 100 after eight years with Avid Technology, where he was Product Designer for Avids Media Composer, Symphony and DS Nitris systems, and trained hundreds of editors as one of Avids first Certified Training Instructors and the author of The Avid Handbook, now in its fourth edition.
"I am excited to be part of Optibase's committed effort to bring a strong development plan to Media 100. As I was consulting on the next release of 844/X, it was clear to me that we were a good match, said Bayes. ?I look forward to leading an experienced marketing team and focusing development for Media 100's push in to the HD post production market. We will have a compelling combination of true multi-stream realtime, 10-bit SD and multiple streams of HD to introduce to professional digital video artists in the coming year."
?Steve Bayes is one of the most respected names in post production and broadcast, said Optibases Amir Goren, general manager of Media 100. ?He has single-handedly trained generations of editors through his educational teaching and coursework, and he has devoted his career to understanding the needs of artists and translating those into creative tools. We welcome Steve on board at a very exciting moment as Media 100 is ramping up on its investment and introducing a number of innovative product developments to the market.
Bayes joins Media 100 after seven years as Avids Principal Product Designer, overseeing the design and development of all of the new systems features, which included key advancements in color correction, keyframe effects, timewarps, Marquee titling and new real-time HD hardware. Bayes was recruited by Avid as a trainer in 1993 and developed the Avid Master Editor Workshop, going on to build curricula and teach courses in Europe, Asia and across North America as Senior Instructor for Avid Educational Services. Bayes began his career in the mid-1980s as an online tape editor at Videocraft Productions in New England. As an editor, Bayes has seen his work screened in movie theaters, classrooms and museums around the world and has won numerous industry awards, including the ITVA Golden Reel for exhibits at the New England Aquarium. Bayes attended Northwestern University and hails from southern Florida.
