Medea Ships FireFly Storage

Modular FireWire devices offer capacities up to 500 GB By Dave Nagel
Medea has started shipping a new line of external storage devices called FireFly, which offers modular storage designed specifically for data-intensive applications, including graphics and video editing. The new systems are available now for Macintosh and Windows.

The FireWire-based FireFly systems are designed for digital audio and video editing, DVD authoring, digital imaging and desktop publishing. They're available in capacities of 240 GB, 400 GB and 500 GB and include a docking station and removable disk modules that also operate as stand-alone FireWire drives. When configured as standalone drive, the modules can be swapped out and used independently and then brought back to the dock and synchronized using the included software. The units can also be striped or mirrored (RAID-0 or RAID-1). The FireFLy also includes a front-mounted FIreWire port for connection to a DV camcorder.

FireFly systems support common applications on Macintosh and WIndows systems, including software from Apple, Adobe, Avid, Digidesign, Pinnacle Systems and others. The models are available in 240 GB, 400 GB and 500GB capacities for $699, $999 and $1,299, respectively. For more information, visit
