Medea Demos New RAIDs

StreamRaid available up to 12 TB By Dave Nagel
Medea is demonstrating new RAID arrays based on UltraDMA technology at this year's IBC show in Amsterdam Sept. 13 to 16. These include new VideoRaid RTS, VideoRaid RTR, VideoRaid RTRX and StreamRaid.

VideoRaid RTS is designed for video editing applications and includes a compact five-drive desktop tower with capacities of up to 480 GB. The arrays feature an Ultra160 SCS for data transfer rates of up to 125 MB per second.

VideoRaid RTR disk arrays also feature an Ultra160 SCSI interface and come in a five-drive desktop configuration. The dual-channel, 10-drive, rack mountable VideoRaid RTRX models sustain more than 200 MB per second. Both offer capacities up to 960 GB, Multi-Stream Technology (MST) for real-time playback of multiple uncompressed video streams, automatic array rebuild and removable disk drive modules, power supplies and RAID controllers. They're compatible with Mac, SGI, Sun and Windows-based workstations.

The new StreamRaid disk arrays are designed for server applications that require fault tolerance, high-sustained bandwidth and multi-terabyte storage capacity for VOD, Web and broadcast servers, tape library emulation and disk backup systems. StreamRaid is available in 12- and 48-drive versions with capacities up to 12 TB in a 4U rack-mountable enclosure. StreamRaid features up to 16 Fibre Channel ports and offers sustained data transfer rates to 800 MB per second. The system can be configured to operate as either a RAID 3/4 or as a mirrored JBOD.
