Medea Debuts VideoRaid RTS Arrays

RAID models available up to 640 GB By Dave Nagel
Medea has debuted a new line of drives in its VideoRaid series of SCSI RAID arrays. The new VideoRaid RTS models are designed specifically for high-bandwidth content creation. The company showed off the drives at this week's NAB convention.

The Medea VideoRaid RTS is designed to be a "low-cost" array for non-linear video editing, 2D/3D animation, compositing and game development. RTS disk arrays are available in a five-drive desktop tower with capacities of 160 GB, 320 GB and 640 GB. The arrays feature an Ultra160 SCSI interface that enables the VideoRaid RTS to sustain a data transfer rate of up to 100 MB per second. They come in around $7 per GB.

VideoRaid RTS disk arrays also provide data protection, allowing the system to continue to operate with no loss of data and no degradation in data transfer rate even if one drive fails, according to Medea. RTS is optimized with Medea's proprietary Multi-Stream Technology, a caching algorithm that enables VideoRaid RTS disk arrays to support the playback of NLE timelines with up to two real-time uncompressed video streams.

The five-drive VideoRaid RTS is available in 160 GB, 320 GB and 640 GB capacities with list prices of $2,799, $3,299 and $4,999, respectively. For more information, visit
