McRay Chooses Sledgehammer HD!O Dual Link

Sledgehammer is the key for "Tapeless Digital Production Pipeline" concept (January 11, 2005)

Maximum Throughput Inc. (, a provider of high performance, networked storage and media management solutions, announced today that McRay Corporation has selected 2 Sledgehammer HD!O Dual Link systems with Xstoner as a centralized server solution and uncompressed 4:4:4 HD content manager for its new post production studio. The products were purchased through Max-T's Japanese distributor, Max-T K.K. McRay joins a growing list of marquee customers in the United States, Europe, Canada and Asia.

McRay's new studio was designed around the "Tapeless Digital Production Pipeline" concept. This concept fosters the idea that from acquisition to delivery, the entire production process including shooting, color grading, editing, effects, and mastering can be achieved digitally, while maintaining the best picture quality throughout the entire process and eliminating the need to go to video tape. The new studio in Tennoz, Tokyo, opened for business on December 1st, 2004.

Masafumi Odawara, Executive Managing Director of Ray Corporation had these comments about the "Tapeless Digital Production Pipeline" concept, "We think of this as our digital fortress. The advantages of providing the high quality images of uncompressed 4:4:4 RGB data from shooting to mastering are tremendous. We know that this concept has been implemented by post-production facilities in Hollywood, but it has not been implemented in Japan on such a large scale. To accomplish the goal of the Tapeless Digital Production Pipeline, we need to have an efficient workflow with all our equipment being on the same network. With the varied equipment that we use, such as digital cameras, editing & effects systems, and CG equipment, we needed a single network. We chose Sledgehammer HD!O because it provides us with the high performance required to prove this concept, and the ability to hook up to the network and integrate seamlessly with all our equipment."

Masafumi Odawara continued, "We reduced startup costs by avoiding purchasing excess VTR's and video tapes and are saving money by eliminating wait time. Because we reduced waiting time we have added time for the creative process, enabling us to experiment more and be more productive. That is the ideal solution from a company management standpoint. Since the process is entirely digital, it is completely resolution independent. Sledgehammer is not only a high-performance NAS, but is also a unique video solution with uncompressed RGB 4:4:4 I/O, real-time video playback, and DDR features. It fits perfectly into our environment and supports our high-performance workflow. Those features allow us to uniquely market and differentiate ourselves by providing the highest possible quality, with the backbone to support those needs.

"McRay has implemented the 1st digital production pipeline on this scale in Japan, and in doing so has opened up new possibilities for themselves by enhancing their workflow and maintaining an all-digital environment. We are honored that McRay has chosen Sledgehammer HD!O and Xstoner as key elements for their Digital Production Pipeline" commented John Miller, Max-T's VP of Worldwide Sales & Marketing.
