McCammon's Heaven Takes Top Honor at HypefestWins Style Council Award at 2nd Annual Hypefest film festival (August 02, 2004)
Heaven, an experimental short film by Todd McCammon, won the Style Council Award at the 2nd Annual Hypefest film festival. The award, the top honor at Hypefest, recognizes a project for its unique style and visual panache. The festival took place July 24-25 in Los Angeles and featured screenings of 75 original short subject works from filmmakers around the world including Floria Sigismondi, Michel Gondry, Noam Murro and Roman Coppola.
Heaven, which made its world premiere earlier this year at the Florida Film Festival, was also named Best Experimental Film at the Kansas City Filmmakers Jubilee. Additionally, the film has screened at the USA Film Festival, the Maryland Film Festival, the DC Underground Film Festival, the Lake Placid Film Festival and the 37th Humboldt International Short Film Festival.
McCammon, a producer at the digital design and production studio Click 3x, describes his film as ?a personal journey through the history of cinema culminating in its earliest form. Heaven presents a rapidly paced montage of brief clips from films famous and obscure set to music by DJ Baba G, ending with a zoetrope motion study. McCammon recorded the film on Super 8mm at the American Museum of the Moving Image in Astoria, New York, which maintains a large number of exhibits on historical and contemporary film. The film was produced by McCammon and Linda K. Moroney. McCammon and Mark Szumski were the editors. Szumski also handled visual effects and graphics.
McCammons previous work as a director includes Empty Pages, which screened at the Boston Film Festival and the Philadelphia Film Festival, and is currently being distributed by BigFilmShorts. He also co-directed (with Linda K. Moroney) the short If Spielberg Made a Snuff Film, which won a Merit Award at the Putnam County Film and Video Festival 2002, and also screened at the San Francisco Independent Film Festival and Splitscreen Lexington Film Festival.
He is currently developing a feature film.
