Matrox Posts RTMac Preview Release 5

Update fixes A/V sync with shuttle control By Dave Nagel
Matrox today released another update to the public beta drivers for the RTMac for Mac OS X. The RTMac is a video capture and editing system designed to work with Apple's Final Cut Pro. The new version of the drivers offers general optimizations and is available now as a free download.

The Matrox RTMac is a combination video capture system (PCI card with breakout box) and graphics accelerator, providing support for a second Mac monitor on the capture card. Matrox launched its initial set of beta drivers for Mac OS X back in June owing to demand from users, though there were still some known issues with the software. The new version Preview Release 5 software fixes A/V sync when using shuttle control. Matrox says the new version is a final release candidate, though there are some known issues, such as a compatibility problem with the recently released QuickTime 6.4 when used in conjunction with Final Cut Pro 4. (This does not seem to be an issue with Final Cut Pro 3.) Other known issues are listed in the Matrox RTMac support forum.

The RTMac public preview releases are available as free software downloads for RTMac users. For more information or to download the drivers, visit
