MatchLight Updates Compositing System

Version 2.0 gains Mac OS X support By Dave Nagel
MatchLight Software has released MatchLight 2.0, a compositing system designed to match lighting conditions between foreground and background images. The new version is available now for Mac OS 9 and Mac OS X.

MatchLight analyzes all of the lighting information contained in an image (using supplied targets) and then indexes the lighting information as metadata to produce a Light Map. A Light Map contains information such as light direction, light quality, light elevation and camera angle. Photographers then use this information to match the lighting characteristics of the foreground image to those of the location backgrounds using MatchLight's library of 25,000 location images. New features in version 2.0 include:

  • Improved algorithms for enhanced target selection and recognition;
  • New Marquee tool for target recognition and image analysis;
  • Manual LightMap;
  • Digital LightMaps can be printed or saved as JPEG files.

MatchLight 2.0 sells for $999. Those who purchase the software before March 31 will receive three free high-resolution location images from MatchLight's library. For more information, visit
