Marquis Broadcast Introduces Medway Media Highway with Support for .AVI-Based Systems and Extended Integration with Avid Inte

(September 04, 2007)
DMN Newswire--2007-9-4--Marquis Broadcast, specialist in broadcast workflow studies and software integration solutions, will be demonstrating the latest version of its Medway media highway product at IBC 2007 including newly added support for .AVI-based systems and extended support for Avid Interplay.

Medway enables media files from multiple sources to be moved seamlessly between multiple vendor platforms without incurring bottlenecks in workflow caused by file incompatibility. At IBC 2007, Marquis will show .AVI support for Medway which has been developed in response to broadcasters' requests for tighter integration between their existing broadcasting software applications and widely used products like Adobe Premier. The new functionality will enable users to browse files using the .AVI format, and read and write them to a range of servers by rewrapping the media and its associated metadata in the appropriate formats to ensure the process is smooth and efficient.

Also at IBC 2007, Marquis is demonstrating Medway with tighter integration functions for users of Avid Interplay. Through use of Avid Transfer Manager APIs, Medway is able to increase integration within the Avid Interplay production environment by enabling media transfers to be performed using a much richer set of metadata. As well as achieving greater compatibility between Avid products running on Interplay, users will also be able to perform a wider range of browse and query functions for higher level control of media transfers between the Interplay and third party broadcasting systems, for example, the Harris Invenio media asset management system.

"Medway is consistently chosen by broadcasters who need fast and reliable delivery of content for workflows and infrastructures where a variety of hardware platforms and software architectures are employed," said Granby Patrick, Partner Director, Marquis Broadcast Ltd. "By working with leading system developers, we are able to integrate Medway into 'best of breed' software applications so that broadcasters can use their preferred systems in the knowledge that their broadcasting processes will be fast and efficient all the way from media acquisition through to playout and delivery."

The latest version of Medway also includes extended support for HD, enabling media captured on Sony XDCAMHD and DVCPro100 camcorders to be quickly and easily transferred between file servers and postproduction and broadcasting applications. This functionality is also available for Ikegami FieldPak and Panasonic P2 media storage.

In addition, Marquis will demonstrate Medway's powerful media transcoding functions that enable broadcasters to achieve higher levels of interoperability in their acquisition to playout processes by transcoding video sequences created on Avid and other editing systems quickly and easily to a range of servers for immediate playback. Medway transcoding is compatible with DV25 PAL and NTSC with stereo audio, and PC-based Avid systems, Leitch Nexio 4000 and 3600, .AVI PC based servers, and Omneon QuickTime. Broadcasters no longer need to spend time outputting to tape and re-ingesting media. Instead, Medway automatically initiates a fast transfer from the source application to the target destination server in the selected format.
