Markzware Ships FlightCheck Professional 5

Preflighting software gains Mac OS X support By Dave Nagel
Markzware has released FlightCheck Professional 5, an update to the company's preflighting suite. The Markzware has also released FlightCheck Designer 5 (formerly known as FlightCheck Collect!). Both are available now for Mac OS 9, Mac OS X and Windows.

FlightCheck Professional 5 is Markzware's flagship preflighting application. It uses a drag and drop interface to scan files using hundreds of available tests to determine whether there are any problems present in a document that will cause output problems. (File types supported include Adobe InDesign, QuarkXPress, PDF, PageMaker, Multi-Ad Creator, Illustrator, Photoshop, FreeHand, CorelDRAW and others.) The new version gains Mac OS X support; expanded support for native applications (such as Microsoft Word, Publisher and PowerPoint); support for OpenType, TrueType and PostScript 1 fonts; the ability to check multiple documents in a single session; and new interface tweaks. Other enhancements include a new PDF object model, a new PDF FlightPlan with support for PDF/X-1 and PDF/X-3; new pass, error and warning controls; and the ability to sort lists.

FlightCheck Designer 5 is a simplified version of FlightCheck Professional. It provides less extensive quality control, but, according to Markzware, covers "the essentials." It inspects documents for colors, fonts and images, then collects the components of the job, compresses them and includes the Ground Control settings for transmission to the service bureau. The new version gains Mac OS X support, as well as expanded support for native applications; support for OpenType, TrueType and PostScript 1 fonts; and the ability to check multiple documents in a single session.

FlightCheck Professional 5 and FlightCheck Designer 5 are available now for Mac OS 9, Mac OS X and Windows. FlightCheck Professional runs $499 for the full version, $199 for upgrades. FLightCheck Designer runs $199 for the full version, $99 for upgrades. French, Dutch and German versions will also be available soon, according to the company.
