MapMuse to Give Away Four English Language Learning Apps

  (January 03, 2013)

Reston, Virginia (PRWEB) January 04, 2013

MapMuse today kicked off a promotional sale for its Learn English by Radio iPhone apps, which use famous classic radio shows such as Dragnet and X-Minus One to teach English comprehension skills. Instead of buying expensive textbooks and software, ESL students can now master the languages spoken nuances while listening to some of the greatest stories to ever air on American radio.

Learning English shouldnt feel like work, says MapMuse owner Mike Pilon. Not when youre being taught by detectives, cowboys, aliens, and saucy wisecracking women. The four apps included in the promotional sale base their lessons on episodes of Dragnet, a gritty crime drama, Gunsmoke, a popular Western, X Minus One, a sci-fi thriller, and Our Miss Brooks, a classroom comedy.

MapMuse has developed technology that helps students overcome common obstacles to listening comprehension, such as overly fast tempo, colloquial pronunciations, idioms, and slang. For example, students without an ear for the speed of spoken English can slow down, jump around, or replay audio sections, which are perfectly synched with a written transcript. Difficult words and expressions are linked to definitions and explanatory notes. Quizzes are inserted at natural stopping points to reinforce lessons taught in that section. Our primary goal was to weave education and entertainment together as seamlessly as possible, says Pilon.

The four apps can be downloaded at no cost from the following links:

Dragnet - Episode 188: No Big Tooth
Gunsmoke - Episode 214: Cheap Labor
Our Miss Brooks - Episode 117: Puppy Love
X Minus One - Episode 4: Mars is Heaven
