MapMuse Releases Season Five Update to Cupcake Wars Companion App

MapMuse today announced the release of a major data update to Cupcake Wars Companion, a popular iPhone app that connects Cupcake Wars fans with bakeries owned by contestants featured on the hit Food Network show. Cupcake Wars Companion now features 217 bakeries that users can learn about, contact, locate, and then visit in real life.

The concept behind the app is simple, says MapMuse owner Mike Pilon. Cupcake Wars viewers are tantalized on a weekly basis by the treats competitors whip up on the show. With this app on their phone, they can find and try the competitors cupcakes for themselves. The foundation of the app is an interactive map pinned with hundreds of icons representing the locations of contestants cupcakeries. Users tap an icon to bring up the cupcakerys profile page, which features contact information, background details, useful web links, photos, reviews, an episode synopsis, and more.

Once a user has located a nearby bakery theyd like to visit, they can view the daily cupcake menu, call ahead to place an order with one-touch dialing, and then get driving directions there via in-app Google Maps navigation. Our goal is to make it as easy as possible for fans to locate and get to their favorite contestants shops, says Pilon. Afterward, Users are encouraged to share photos and reviews of the cupcakes they try. Cupcakes Wars Companion is more than just a locator, says Pilon. It serves as a review platform too, sort of like a specialized Yelp just for Cupcake Wars competitors bakeshops.

Unsurprisingly, some of the biggest fans of Cupcake Wars Companion have been the Cupcake Wars contestants themselves. The app helps attract more customers to their businesses, which results in more cupcake orders. Several contestants have even helped promote the app by publicizing it in their stores and Facebook pages. Naturally, we love any and all publicity we can get, says Pilon.

Cupcake Wars Companion currently retails for $2.99 on the iTunes app store. Although a Droid version is expected to be released on the Google Play Store sometime this summer, eager fans without iPhones can access MapMuses Cupcake Wars web map in the meanwhile. The web map displays the exact same cupcakeries as the iPhone app, but without the mobile functionality (e.g. one touch dialing and driving directions). Both the mobile app and web map are periodically updated free-of-charge as new episodes are aired on the Food Network.
