MapMuse Announces Release of The Layover Locator App(April 12, 2012)
Reston, VA (PRWEB) April 12, 2012
MapMuse, an app development company based out of Reston, Virginia, today announced the release of The Layover Locator on the iTunes App Store. The app connects fans of the hit Travel Channel show, The Layover, with the restaurants, hotels, tourist attractions host Anthony Bourdain visits.
The Layover is Bourdain at his best, says MapMuse owner Mike Pilon. With this app in their library, fans of the program can follow in his footsteps when touring the cities he toured on the show. On The Layover, Bourdain jet sets between metropolises such as Los Angeles, New York, Rome, and Hong Kong, making frenzied stopovers in which he shows viewers how to authentically experience local food and culture in as short a time as possible. The Layover Locator translates his advice into map-based travel guides for each city, geolocating the places he visits and explaining why he chooses to stop there.
Although the name and general location of the restaurants, hotels, and landmarks Bourdain visits are given at some point during each episode, finding their exact addresses, contact information, and websites can require painstaking research. The Layover Locator includes all of this information on handy profile pages for each location. Additional features include episode synopses, photos of the locations, instant driving directions via GPS, and one-touch dialing and emailing. The Layover Locator represents a breakthrough for Bourbain superfandom, explains Pilon. It boils down his acerbic wit and genuinely valuable travel advice into one easy-to-use app, allowing users to track his exploits on the show location-by-location.
In the interest of engaging active participation in the app, MapMuse encourages users to submit photos and reviews of the places they visit directly from their mobile devices. We openly invite all Bourdain wannabes and imitators to share their travel advice with other users, says Pilon. Think of it as a mini-Yelp just for The Layover restaurants." Fans will also be pleased to hear that MapMuse plans to update the app free-of-charge as new episodes air, guaranteeing that the current number of locations (217 from all ten episodes) will increase.
The Layover retails for $2.99 on the iTunes App Store. Although an Android version of the app is currently in development, fans without an iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch can access MapMuses free The Layover Locator web map, which plots the same locations as the app but with reduced functionality.
