Man charged in 3 Ariz. killings acts odd in courtMan charged in killings of Paradise Valley couple, Phoenix man acts strangely in court
PHOENIX (AP) ' A man suspected of killing a Phoenix man and then a couple in the picturesque suburb of Paradise Valley refused to say his own name in court and then squawked like a bird.
Michael Lee Crane was in Maricopa County Superior Court on Thursday for a hearing about his mental capacity when he started acting bizarrely.
The 31-year-old has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder charges in the killings. Lawrence and Glenna Shapiro were killed Jan. 30 and Bruce Gaudet was killed Jan. 26 in separate robberies.
Crane smiled widely at people in the courtroom as officers pushed him in a wheelchair.
It was unclear why he was in the chair, but Crane has refused to go to court in the past.
Crane's attorney, Jamie Sparks, says Crane may have hurt his foot.
