MakeMusic! Releases Finale 2003 for Mac

Music notation software includes rhythm section generator By Dave Nagel
MakeMusic! has released Finale 2003 for Macintosh. Finale is a music notation program. The 2003 version was released last month for Windows. The new Mac version brings platform parity, although the software still does not run natively in Mac OS X.

n its latest incarnation, Finale receives a major interface overhaul (with 1,700 new interface tweaks, according to the company) and provides a selection of 14 interface themes for the user. It also adds a number of functional improvements. These include:

  • Music scanning technology that provides better optical music character recognition.
  • New TAB notation features that allow users to enter music in a traditional staff and see it displayed automatically in a TAB staff or vice versa.
  • A Rhythm Section Generator that allows arrangers to compose piano, bass and drum parts for any melody with chords automatically.
  • An English-language Rhyming Dictionary.

Finally 2003 is available now for $600 with various discounts for educational and ecclesiastical users. Upgrade prices vary. Finale 2003 requires Mac OS 8.6 or later and will run in Classic mode on top of Mac OS X. For more information, visit
