Magma Ships 64-Bit PCI Expansion Chassis

CardBus devices designed for notebooks By Dave Nagel
Magma has released two new expansion chassis for notebook users. The new CardBus to PCI expansion systems offer dual 64-bit PCI slots and are available now for Macintosh and Windows-based notebooks.

According to Magma, the new portable systems enable the use of standard PCI cards. In the past, Magma's CardBus to PCI systems have been limited to 32-bit expansion, since CardBus connections are only 32-bit. But the new two-slot configuration allows for 64-bit communication between two PCI cards inside the expansion enclosure.

The new 64-bit, two-slot systems accommodate two full-length 64-bit PCI cards and two internal disk drives and include a 1 meter expansion cable and CardBus PC Card. (Magma also offers optional SCSI, Firewire and IDE Storage Kits specifically designed for the two-slot expansion system.)

The models are available with or without a power supply. The model without a power supply sells for $1,095. The model with power supply sells for $1,450. Both support Apple PowerBooks and Windows-based notebooks. For more information, visit
