Macromedia Ships Contribute

Mac OS X version to follow By Dave Nagel
Macromedia has shipped Contribute, a new software application for updating and publishing to existing Web sites, originally announced last month. The software is available initially for Windows, with a Mac OS X version following. Macromedia also says it plans to ship an update to Dreamweaver MX this month offering performance enhancements in Mac OS X.

Macromedia Contribute works with any HTML-based Web site and allows users to add or update content without learning Web design or development software. It allows Web developers to protect a site's design and structure while also allowing contributors to add content to the site. Users browse to the Web page they want to update, make any necessary edits and then publish the updated page to the live site. Contribute also integrates with Microsoft Word and Excel for dragging and dropping formatted content into the application.

Contribute is available now for Windows for $99. A Mac OS X version will be available in 2003. For more information, visit
