Macromedia Launches Cross-Platform Promotion for Director MX

Company offers half off second platform version By Dave Nagel
Macromedia has launched a new deal on Director MX, which was just released yesterday. It allows users who purchase the software for one platform to get the a version for a second platform at half price. The deal applies to upgrades, mixed upgrades and new purchases.

Macromedia Director MX, like previous releases, does not author to multiple platforms from a single development environment. Rather, users have to purchase versions of the software for the platforms they're authoring for. Developers have been asking for a multiplatform version of the tool for some time, but, to date, this hasn't happened.

Director normally sells for $1,199, and upgrades run $399. For those who own Director 8 or 8.5 for one platform and wish to upgrade to Director MX on Macintosh and WIndows platforms, the total price would be $998. For those who currently own both, the upgrade for both would run $598. And for those who own neither, the total purchase price for both platforms would be $1,798.

The cross-platform promotion lasts through Jan. 2. For more information, visit
