Macromedia Intros Contribute

Company also promises Mac OS X performance enhancements for Dreamweaver MX By Dave Nagel
Macromedia has announced Contribute, a new software application for updating and publishing to existing Web sites. The software will be available initially for Windows, with a Mac OS X version following. Macromedia also says it plans to ship an update to Dreamweaver MX next month offering performance enhancements in Mac OS X.

Macromedia Contribute works with any HTML-based Web site and allows users to add or update content without learning Web design or development software. It allows Web developers to protect a site's design and structure while also allowing contributors to add content to the site. Users browse to the Web page they want to update, make any necessary edits and then publish the updated page to the live site. Contribute also integrates with Microsoft Word and Excel for dragging and dropping formatted content into the application.

Macromedia says it will release an update to Dreamweaver MX concurrent with the release of Contribute to enable advanced administration features, as well as improved performance. It will be available for Windows in December and Mac OS X in 2003. The new version of Dreamweaver for Macintosh will be available in December. Contribute will sell for an introductory price of $99.
