"This is SO Flash 3!"

Well, maybe not.....but it sure seemed that way after reading through this mainly 40 dollar waste of a book.

Production Techniques could have been an interesting book that really explores the best ways to optimize your Flash movies for the best performance on the web. That seems to be the main purpose of the book but most of the book glosses on simple ways to create Flash movies that hark back to the Flash 3 days or even earlier to the early days of FutureSplash in some cases. This is a basic introduction to Flash showing off simple animated projects and websites.

The last chapter of this book does offer some excellent optimizing tips for your Flash projects, but I would expect even more advice in a book like this than just one chapter at the tail end of a book. If you're an experienced pro even of just a few months, you won't find much in this book that you cannot find a Flash book that costs less and offers more.

Macromedia Press has had a history of coming up with many interesting titles that really do help with the learning of its' various products. Especially in the Demystified series. I am hoping this does not start the beginning of a downward trend towards mediocrity from this brand.
