MacBook and MacBook Pro lead Apple Computer Sales, Opening Door to Memory Upgrades(October 30, 2006)
DMN Newswire--2006-10-30--Apple Computer, Inc. Vice President of Worldwide Mac Product Marketing David Moodey reported in an interview with Macworld that nearly one million of the 1.6 million Mac computers shipped in the company's record-setting last fiscal quarter were MacBook and MacBook Pros, indicating the new Intel-based Mac portables are leading the company's computer sales.
As the number of MacBook and MacBook Pro notebook computers entering the consumer market has expanded, so has the opportunity to upgrade those portables.
"Intel Macs are fast; what makes them even faster is the addition of more memory," explains Larry O'Connor, CEO of Other World Computing, a firm that has specialized in providing upgrades to Mac owners since 1988.
Other World Computing was the first third-party company to provide memory upgrades for the full line of Intel Macs, including the MacBook, MacBook Pro, Intel Mac mini, and Mac Pro Quad Xeon.
Sold through its popular e-commerce portal www.MacSales.com, OWC's memory products meet the same published specifications required by Apple but typically at lower prices. The quality is guaranteed by a Lifetime Advance Replacement Warranty.
"Other World Computing is able to offer a Lifetime Advance Replacement Warranty on memory for Apple computers including the new MacBook, MacBook Pro, Mac mini, and Mac Pros because of the absolute quality and the steps taken to guarantee that top level of quality," says Jamie Dresser, Product Manager and New Product Development.
OWC maintains a state-of-the-art test lab at its corporate headquarters. All OWC memory is thoroughly performance tested in the precise Mac model it is sold for.
The MacBook is available in 1.83GHz and 2.0GHz models, and the MacBook Pro Core Duo is available in 1.83GHz, 2.0GHz, and 2.16GHz models. Both portables are engineered with two user-accessible memory slots for up to 2GB maximum. Apple recommends that memory be installed in matched pairs; OWC offers matched set upgrade kits in both 1GB and 2GB options. OWC modules start at just $69.97.
The MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo, just released, has two user-accessible memory slots for up to 3GB maximum. By adding a 1GB OWC memory module to the factory-installed 1GB memory, the maximum 128MBit performance memory addressing capability is attained. OWC 1GB modules for the MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo start at $127.95.
With MacBook and MacBook Pro sales pushing Apple's computer sales forward at brisk pace, the Chicago Tribune confirmed today that Apple has a better reputation than most PC makers. In the same report, Apple's market share is documented to have grown from 4 percent two years ago to 6 percent today.
