MTV Reality Show Premieres With REZN8-Designed Graphics(August 06, 2001)
The package included the logo design, animated open, graphic bumpers and backgrounds for the show.
"Flipped" is a half-hour series in which people willingly surrender their lives for a day to experience a completely different life. The show places participants in arranged scenarios enabling them to experience life in someone else's shoes.
Examples of "Flipped" scenarios include an admittedly prejudiced man who is given the opportunity to be black for a day and a mother who trades places with her 16-year-old daughter. The series is executive produced by Arnold Shapiro, Oscar- and Emmy-winning producer of the 1979 film "Scared Straight!" and the current summer series "Big Brother 2" on CBS.
The show open begins with 30 seconds of "Flipped" footage and transitions into a rapid animation sequence produced by REZN8. The sequence generates a tunnel effect with clips of show episodes and concludes with the "Flipped" logo playfully emerging from the back of the tunnel flipping the positions of the two P's.
"MTV has always presented the views of society's younger generation with a unique perspective, and we wanted to reflect that graphically and realistically as possible," said Paul Sidlo, president of REZN8. "'Flipped' allowed our creative team to produce the type of edgy graphics that depict the type of emotional journey participants encounter on the show."
"REZN8's unique visual style was an incredibly important asset to our production as we needed a creative company to graphically represent our concept -- people 'flipping' lives for a day -- in a powerful and striking way," said Allison Grodner, executive producer, Arnold Shapiro Productions.
"REZN8 fit the bill; it was obvious that they grasped our concept right away and created an open that very effectively met our needs."
"Flipped" debuts Monday, Aug. 6, at 10:30 p.m. on MTV.
