(April 09, 2012)

SEATTLE, WA -- (Marketwire) -- 04/09/12 -- The Merchant Risk Council (MRC), a global merchant-led trade association focused on electronic commerce payments and risk, announced the winners of the METAwards and inaugural Merchant Spotlight award at their annual conference in Las Vegas on March 29, 2012.

Addressing the delegates at MRC's sold out conference, Diarmuid Considine of Skype, a world leader in text, voice and video, proudly introduced their winning merchant fraud innovation and accepted MRC's Merchant Spotlight award as judged by a diverse panel of anonymous online and multi-channel merchant peers.

When asked what winning MRC's Merchant Spotlight award means to Skype, Diarmuid Considine, who flew in from Estonia to accept this prestigious award, replied, "This award is a strong endorsement for Skype's approach of putting their customers first whilst showing new innovations in combating fraud."

"The competition was fierce," said the Chair of the merchant judging panel. "We received a multitude of strong applicants for the Merchant Spotlight award," he added. "In the end, it was determined that Skype was the best merchant innovation and they have certainly set the bar for next year's contenders."

The METAward, (Merchant Emerging Technology Award) recognizes solution providers delivering the most innovative, cutting edge technology for managing payments and risk in electronic commerce. This year, MRC conference attendees chose the METAward winners from 3 finalists in the Start-up and Established company categories who presented their innovations live on stage. Finalists in the Start-up category included Curaxian, XYverify and Semafone. The Established company category finalists included iovation, ThreatMetrix and 41st Parameter. After delivering impressive presentations on stage, Semafone and 41st Parameter captured the most votes from the conference attendees.

Semafone, MRC's Start-up METAward winner, hails from the United Kingdom and is an up and coming leader in secure voice transactions. "Winning the Start-up METAward is a tribute to our whole team," said Graham Thompson, Semafone's Sales & Marketing Director. "The market for our product is growing and it is an honour to receive this accolade from the MRC for our contribution. We would like to extend our thanks to our employees, our partners and our customers for supporting us as we grow from start-up to industry leader."

Ori Eisen, Founder and Chief Innovation Officer at 41st Parameter, a global leader in device recognition and online fraud protection, brought his staff on stage as he accepted the Established company METAward for their winning innovation called SafeSession, which is a core element of the company's FraudNet platform. To receive this recognition from both the MRC and the leading e-Commerce risk experts validates our unique ability to prevent the latest types of fraud attacks. We are committed to staying one step ahead of even the most resourceful fraudsters to help protect e-Commerce and other fraud-threatened industries."

"Each finalist's product was judged for its level of innovation, potential to make a positive impact in the industry, relevance in making e-Commerce more efficient, safe, profitable, providing ease of use and versatility for merchants in different e-Commerce verticals," commented Greg Goeckner, Executive Director of the MRC. "As the premiere global Fraud and Payments association, we were very pleased with the high caliber of contenders from around the world and congratulate the finalists and winners for an exciting and well executed competition."
