MOG Solutions Provides MXF Proxy Encoder for Olympic Coverage

The encoder will receive uncompressed material from the HD infrastructure (January 11, 2006)

MOG Solutions has been selected to provide a MXF Proxy Encoder to NBC during the networks coverage of the 2006 Winter Olympics from Torino, Italy, February 10-26.  The announcement was made today by Matt Adams, Director Technology, NBC Olympics and Vitor Teixeira, Vice President Product Development, MOG Solutions.

The encoder will receive uncompressed material from the HD infrastructure and generate a MPEG-4 MXF proxy file, according to Sonys proxy specification.

One major innovation is the ability to record on-the-fly static and dynamic metadata in the MXF Proxy file. The dynamic metadata is fully synchronized with the video signal, providing editors with automatically generated information, relevant to each particular competition.

The previous infrastructure was capable of simultaneously recording the incoming SD material and generating a MXF proxy file version of the recorded material. The metadata was captured automatically, and on-the-fly while being stored in a database system. At this point the user could also insert descriptions of the content directly into the database system.

Now, with the new HD devices and the MXF Proxy encoder from MOG Solutions, the system will be enhanced to take the most out of the HD coverage. Furthermore, metadata will be placed inside the MXF file meaning that the captured material will contain during all production and post-production stages the metadata added at the ingest process.
