MEI Releases CLS and ClassForce for Mac OS XLatest major upgrade to popular classified ad layout systems (October 15, 2004)
Managing Editor Inc. (MEI), a Philadelphia-based provider of software solutions for the publishing industry, today announced the release of Page Director Classified Layout System (CLS) 3.5 and ClassForce 3.5 for Mac OS X.
In addition to OS X compatibility, CLS 3.5 and ClassForce 3.5 offer a number of enhancements that streamline workflow and increase productivity.
Enhanced Import/Export Functionality.
The new File Map dialog centralizes all controls for importing, exporting, and updating items in CLS and ClassForce runsheets. Users can now run updates on stream files rather than re-streaming the entire file, and more delimiters have been added for import files. The File Map dialog also has new capabilities for selecting and analyzing the structure of sample import files to facilitate fast setup of file maps. The new Gather Items menu simplifies the setup for gathering and importing headers, displays, or fillers from selected folders, and automatically recognizes all file types, including PDF.
Most classification characteristics have been redefined as behaviors, making it easier to set up a certain set of conditions to run or alter classification flows. Defining or changing flow settings?such as look-ahead, header rules, widow and orphan controls, break rules, etc.?can be done on the fly by assigning or changing the behavior designation rather than modifying the classification settings.
Make Action (CLS Only).
All saved settings in CLS have been changed to ?Make Action, allowing users to create actions from every area of the programs functionality, store them in a centralized location, and include them in the Actions palette to automate classified page building.
About CLS and ClassForce
CLS contains a powerful and customizable rules-based pagination engine that allows users to define layout rules and automate classified page building. CLS reads advertising text and image files, builds a runsheet of the classified items, examines the liners and display ads against user-defined rules, and then flows them to pages. CLS offers multi-directional flow, automatic page-squaring options, automatic header placement, automatic vertical justification of elements, and auto-selection and insertion of fillers. There is also a module that will flow items horizontally. ClassForce is the point-and-shoot pagination system for small-to-medium-sized newspapers that do not require the level of customized automation provided by CLS. Completed CLS and ClassForce pages are opened in QuarkXPress or Adobe InDesign for final output.
Page Director Classified Layout System 3.5 and ClassForce 3.5 for Macintosh version 10.3 and higher are available now. Upgrades are free to Premium Site Support customers.
