M-Audio Redesigning Cards for G5 Compatibility

Upgrade program available for Mac users By Dave Nagel
M-Audio says it's working directly with Apple to provide compatibility between G5 systems and its range of PCI-based audio cards. The company has launched a trade-in program for all of its Mac customers using Delta cards and will announce upgrades as they become available.

M-Audio says its Delta audio cards operate on the 5 volts supplied by the standard PCI bus found in pre-G5 systems, while the new PCI-X architecture used in G5 systems supplies 3.3 volts. The cards that M-Audio's redesigning will support PCI-X and will also be backward-compatible with older PCI systems using onboard sensing. Cards affected and qualifying for M-Audio's upgrade program include the Audiophile 2496, Delta 1010, Delta 44, Delta 66 and Delta 1010LT. The Revolution 7.1 surround card is already compatible with G5 systems, according to the company.

For those who purchased their M-Audio cards on or after Aug. 1, the upgrade to the new versions of the cards will be free. For those who purchased prior to this, the upgrade will run $50, plus $5 shipping within the United States. Prices for international customers vary. For more information, visit
