M-Audio Intros 7.1-Channel Surround Card

High-def card features eight channels of 24-bit, 192 kHz playback By Dave Nagel
M-Audio has introduced a new high-definition audio playback card called the Revolution 7.1. The new card offers eight channels (seven plus subwoofer) of 24-bit, 192 kHz audio output on a PCI card and is targeted toward the home theater and gaming markets. It's expected to ship for Mac and Windows in January.

The Revolution 7.1 allows Mac and Windows users to play DVDs, CDs and games in various surround formats. Aside from 7.1, it also supports stereo, 4.1, 5.1 and 6.1 formats. It includes built-in SRS Circle Surround II and TruSurround XT technology as well, which transforms stereo audio signals into surround signals. ANd it supports game technologies like Sensaura, EAX, DirectSound and A3D.

Revolution 7.1 includes a bundle of software, including music creation applications with more than 100 sounds and loops. It will be available in January for $99.99. For more information, visit
