Luxology Announces modo 301

modeling with animation By Ko Maruyama
Luxology recently announced the release of its newest version of their flagship software: modo 301.  The new software comes on the heels of the company's video portal launch.  An excellent pairing, the videos at will allow users old and new alike to see more about the advanced feature sets.

At this past SIGGRAPH convention in San Diego, California, I had the opportunity to sit and joke around a little with luxology's Bob Bennett and Brad Peebler.  We tried to get serious for the interview part, but the news of 301 made me grin, and the dumb grinning made me laugh - - and it was hard to get a good take.

In the outtakes, there were plenty of explatives to indicate how cool the new tools are, and how impressed I was- - especially as Brad and Bob demo'd just how easy it was to create sculpting brushes and begin to modify the beautiful subD's in an already powerful modeler.    Assuming that modo has always been an awesome subdivision modeler - and generates beautiful models, the sculpting tool alone is impressive.  However, modo 301 also adds the opportunity to animate certain parameters of the sculpted object, so you can run simple tests between blend shapes as you're sculpting the model.

It runs smoothly and quickly on a Mac - it's user interface is clean and of course completely customizable for those who like to get into the small bits... and with a completely new set of tools to play with, 301 has plenty for you to tweak on and tweak with.

You can get a free demo of the software from  If you're interested in learning about the application, just launched.... THAT particular interview, I didn't have to sit on, and was previously published (here) on
