WASHINGTON (AP) ' An Associated Press correspondent in Europe during much of the turbulent mid-20th century, Carl Hartman, has died at age 95. Hartman was one of the news cooperatives' longest-serving journalists.
Hartman retired from the AP in 2006 after 62 years but continued writing book reviews. His last review appeared Monday, the day after he died.
A friend of Hartman's, Nancy Thompson, says the Morristown, New Jersey, native died at his Washington, D.C., apartment.
Hartman began his career five months before Germany surrendered in World War II and later led AP bureaus in Madrid, Paris, Budapest, Brussels and Frankfurt.
