London Effects and Animation Festival (LEAF) Awards Given

More than 250 entries for annual ceremony By DMN Staff Writer
The eighth annual London Effects and Animation Festival (LEAF) Awards Ceremony was held Tuesday at the London Hippodrome, Leicester Square.

With over 250 entries for the competition the judging panel, which included representatives from Framestore, Glassworks and Smoke & Mirrors, had a tough job to choose just one winner for each category; for the first time in the history of the awards, two winners were chosen in the category of Special Area Animation.

A complete list of nominees and winners follows.

?The standard of entries was exceptionally high this year, which meant the judging took longer than normal, but it was fantastic to see such high-quality work in every area of effects and animation, commented Sophie Trainor, Conference Manager for Digital Media World. ?With the advances in technology and techniques that we are seeing in this years LEAF conference programme, we are already intrigued to see the level of entries for next years event.

The post-production sponsor for the LEAF Awards 2001 was the Moving Picture Company, which will be responsible for providing a showreel of the entries and winners. Compaq provided the screen on which the nominated films were shown during the Awards. Softimage and Tyrell sponsored the party after the Awards Ceremony.

The London Effects and Animation Festival is part of Digital Media World exhibition, which runs from 13-15th November at Olympia. Digital Media World is Europes premier event for digital creation, management and distribution for the media and entertainment industry. Both Digital Media World and the London Effects and Animation Festival are organised by Advanstar Communications. For more information about Digital Media World visit
