LiveWave Introduces ConvergenceCams For Broadcast

(July 16, 2001)
LiveWave Inc. today announced the availability of the ConvergenceCams suite of products. ConvergenceCams support live multi-format video distribution with remote camera control and network management. Several turnkey packages are available that encompass encoders, servers, cameras, pan/tilt heads, outdoor housings, and even an underwater "extreme" version.

"ConvergenceCams can handle all types and flavors of video origination -- from live traffic cameras and remotes for TV broadcasters to corporate news conferences, monitoring or security applications," said Peter Mottur, president of LiveWave Inc. "Additionally, these systems all provide full camera controls remotely over IP, allowing customers to incorporate dynamic user interactivity into their web-sites and beyond."

Across the country, broadcasters and cable networks have already selected LiveWave's ConvergenceCams for unique delivery of local news, weather and traffic. Stations are able to go directly to air with the broadcast-quality video from the cameras for newscasts and other original programming, while simultaneously streaming the live, interactive video on their Web sites. LiveWave's Web GUI (graphical user interface) enables visitors to control the cameras and engage in live chat and other enhanced real-time data features. LiveWave leads the industry in providing true real time streaming that allows users to remotely control these cameras without any latency or delays. This real time capability enables fluid "joystick" like camera control while also ensuring effective two-way interactivity, such as videoconferencing.

The ConvergenceCams can be placed in virtually any location, and all systems can be remotely managed through the software application or even a standard Web browser. The video can be sent over private fiber optic networks to TV stations or LiveWave's network operations center (NOC), where it is then optimized and distributed to broadcast TV, digital cable, the Internet, CCTV, or PDAs. The programmable camera control is ideal for pay-per-view broadcasts, in-program ad insertion, customized branding and t-commerce for TV and cable stations.

LiveWave's ConvergenceCams feature robotic cameras with advanced professional qualities, such as fluid pan, tilt, focus, white balance, iris and zoom. Scalable, multi-format distribution capabilities include uncompressed audio/video, HDTV, MPEG-2 and a variety of online streaming formats. In addition, the innovative remote management capabilities are ideal for large camera networks and allow authorized operators to override Web users and "take-over" camera control during critical on-air broadcasts.

Several ConvergenceCam packages are available including videoconferencing, industrial and broadcast camera configurations with pan/tilt robotic heads for indoor or outdoor use. LiveWave's server components for ConvergenceCams include a LiveWave camera control driver and server software, queuing capabilities for client control with variable duration settings, administrative over-ride, administrator/director multi-cam switching applications and LiveWave's client java applet and sample code for easy web site integration. Options for Video streaming over IP includes JPEG, RTP, along with MPEG 1 & 2. Cameras feeds can also be directly fed as uncompressed video over fiber, satellite or microwave.
