Link Research Launches LinkHD Wireless Camera SystemLow-delay, wireless camera system for all HDTV formats (September 09, 2005)
LinkHD Wireless HD Camera System
LinkHD is a lightweight unit that can be attached to any standard broadcast camera with an HD-SDI output. It has a control panel with a colour display and a menu system that make it easy to set up the encoder and configure the system for operation.
Signal delay is the key feature for wireless cameras, especially if they are to be used for live sports productions. LinkHD uses Link's FPGA -based MPEG2 encoding and decoding technology, optimised for ultra-low signal delay with no loss of picture quality.
The LinkHD system will have an end-to-end video delay of less than 100ms, making it suitable for use alongside wired HD cameras for live broadcast productions.
Link Research has designed LinkHD to be High Definition through the entire signal chain, that is to say, the full resolution of the original signal HD signal is transmitted without conversion to SD.
The LinkHD system uses Link's own COFDM-based modulation to give a robust signal, with receive diversity featuring both packet diversity and maximum ratio combining to provide unmatched levels of coverage in the area where the camera is operating. It will give full HD operation yet with the robustness of Link's award-winning SD systems.
The power consumption for LinkHD is below 20 watts, which means that the cameras can work for long periods without stopping to change batteries.
Link Research will be taking orders at the show for delivery Q1 2006.
