Lightworks Returns To NABTOUCH 2.0 will make North American debut in April (March 09, 2005)
2005 marks the return of Lightworks to NAB. The company will be showing its Touch Version 2.0 software upgrade in Booth #SU 10254 alongside Gee Broadcast Systems in the “UK village.” This will be the debut appearance of Touch 2.0 in the US.
Touch 2.0 is the second upgrade since Gee Broadcast purchased the Lightworks system in May 2004. Among its numerous enhancements, Touch 2.0 improves open integration support, audio functionality and effects manipulation in the Lightworks Touch system.
New to NAB is Gee Broadcast’s Geevs XT range of multi-format video servers. These provide production, post-production and playout systems for standalone, integrated and networked applications in broadcast film. Geevs XT servers cover capture and playout applications for both single and multi-channel, multi-format systems. Combined with the Geevs XT500 and the SharkNET shared storage environment, Touch 2.0 offers a powerful tapeless production environment.
Material and Metadata interchange with Geevs XT Servers has been upgraded, including edit-during-capture and Touch 2.0 provides improved networking support for multi-seat editing via SharkNET shared storage. Audio enhancements to Touch 2.0 include track-based audio level control – or audio rubberbanding – which is adjustable in real-time, 5 Band parametric EQ – also adjustable in real-time, and audio varispeed.
Touch 2.0 features a number of new effects plug-ins including Adobe After Effects, Sapphire, Tinderbox, Primatte, Boris Continuum and many more – allowing a virtually unlimited range of effects. Improved Digital Fusion and Combustion integration offer direct transfer of a Lightworks Touch timeline into a Digital Fusion flow or Combustion workspace for advanced effects work, including color correction and keying. Animated image-key support allows you to key an image sequence (TGA, TIFF, PNG, etc.) over video output for functions such as station identification. Rendering of existing native effects is faster with Touch 2.0 and a DVE is no longer needed for cropped or windowed output.
Touch 2.0’s editing upgrades include a new, faster and more robust editing engine and feature stripview enhancements with easy-to-use track naming and see-through video black, as well as DVE and keyframing user interface improvements. Version 2.0 software is a free upgrade to Touch users on the Lightworks Serenity support program. Other users may purchase the upgrade from Lightworks or local dealers.
In keeping with its commitment to providing the best editing and production tools possible, Lightworks has been collaborating with Gee Broadcast in the development of additional integrated and truly tapeless networked production systems for TV and film. The companies will be introducing new offerings at NAB with releases targeted for 2005 delivery.
Keith Gee, Managing Director of Gee Broadcast, says “NAB 2005 will be very exciting for Lightworks and Gee Broadcast as it is our first united showing in the USA. Our networked production solutions have proved very successful in Europe and the Middle East and we look forward to accelerating the growth in the US market that our recent developments have already started to produce.”
Lightworks has been developing and supplying high end editing solutions for the film and television industry for over a decade.
