LevelUp for a Good Deal... and a Good CauseAll Level 1 Deal Proceeds on LevelUp Donated to Selected Charities (March 22, 2011)
CAMBRIDGE, MA and PHILADELPHIA, PA -- (Marketwire) -- 03/22/11 -- Earlier this month, SCVNGR launched LevelUp as a pilot in Philly and Boston. (In case you missed it, LevelUp is a brand new type of local deal that gets better as you use it, and encourages new customers to "level-up" into regulars at businesses they love.) What you may not have caught is that LevelUp is giving away all of the proceeds from the "Level 1" deals (that's 25 percent of all sales) to a selected charity partner each day. Call it instant karma (the good kind, not the kind that knocks you on the head)!
For example, in Boston, our first LevelUp was with Boloco, the delicious, New England "inspired burrito" joint (nom nom!). Boloco's charitable partner, Teach For America, received more than $1,625 from sales of the deal. So every purchase of the $5.00 deal sent $1.25 straight to the Teach for America! Mmm, that's the smell of sweet, sweet do-goodery.
So, how's it work? Every merchant that signs on with LevelUp is partnered with a non-profit. It could be a charity that fits with the mission of the company or its owners, or just an awesome community organization that deserves the extra funds and recognition. That charity will receive 25 percent of Level 1 sales. For consumers, any Level 1 deal you buy on LevelUp automatically kicks back funds to the designated charity. So, you can feel good about getting a great deal and contributing to the community all at once!
"LevelUp is all about loyalty. We want to help merchants get the great type of customers who love their business and come back again and again," said Seth Priebatsch, Chief Ninja at SCVNGR and mastermind behind LevelUp. "But our focus on loyalty goes far beyond just repeat visits and repeat purchases. It's about building loyalty to an entire local community. By supporting non-profits with each LevelUp, we're building loyalty from the consumer to the merchant, from the merchant to the community and building a thriving, healthy local ecosystem."

LevelUp is a better way for local businesses and consumers to connect. Consumers, try out a ton of awesome places with a great deal and then go back to the places you love with an even better deal or more exclusive experience. Merchants, get introduced to a large local community of people who not only visit your business, but are actively invited to keep coming back and "level-up" to become regulars... the best type of customers.
With 20MM in funding from Google Ventures, Highland Capital Partners and Balderton Capital, LevelUp is based in Boston, MA with permanent satellite offices in each of the communities they serve. LevelUp is founded by the same folks who brought you SCVNGR and you can learn more about them at http://TheLevelUp.com.
