Leitch to Extend HD Offerings at NAB 2005Strengthens portfolio with test and measurement, video graphics, and digital signage (February 11, 2005)
At NAB 2005, Leitch Technology Corporation, along with its Videotek division and newly acquired company, Inscriber, will showcase a variety of new products that further extend its high-definition offerings. Visitors to the show can see how Leitch products allow broadcasters to store, process, edit and route in both standard and high-definition formats, transitioning facilities to high definition using the companys flexible, future-proof platforms.
The X75HD combines up/down/cross conversion, HD frame sync and extensive video and audio processing capabilities all in a space-saving 1RU package, and is equally suited for analog, digital, or high-definition hybrid facilities. With capabilities that far exceed any digital processing synchronizer, the X75HD allows broadcasters to do much more with less equipment. Video processing features include simultaneous upconversion and downconversion with aspect ratio conversion for hybrid standard- and high-definition facilities; level/color control; optional 3D adaptive color decoding with time base correction; optional noise reduction; and frame synchronization. The X75HDs 16 channels of internal audio processing include timing with video for lip sync corrections; level control; analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog conversion; and embedding and de-embedding for both SDI and HD-SDI serial digital signals and integrated Dolby decompression for interfacing any audio signal in a professional environment.
The Leitch 6800+ modular family has added nine new HD configurations:
The series of eight new HMX6800+ multiplexers and HDX6800+ demultiplexers accommodates 2 or 4 balanced or unbalanced AES signals and all common 1080, 720 and 1035 interlaced and progressive standards. The modules provide extensive flexibility in audio group configuration to finely tailor the audio to meet specific needs for multiple languages, compressed data such as Dolby E, and to correct common audio channel problems. The multiplexers embed up to four AES/EBU inputs into any or all of the four audio groups. The demultiplexers de-embed and provide up to four AES/EBU outputs. Four reclocked HD-SDI outputs are also provided, serving as a mini DA.
Also new is the HFS6800+ video frame synchronizer/processor, which handles ingest and re-timing of HD-SDI video in any broadcast/professional facility. The video proc amp corrects input levels and provides ?composite-like adjustments for black, luminance and chrominance levels. Up to 8 frames of delay can be added for 1080i standards, up to 16 frames for 720p.
New modules in the NEO platform include the following:
? The NEO HUC-3902, a broadcast-quality, de-interlacing upconverter module with embedded audio, closed captioning support and optional discrete audio support. Supporting all common HDTV formats and featuring dual switchable SDI inputs, the NEO HUC-3902 is ideal for advanced applications in which maximum quality, performance and reliability are required.
? NEO DLY-3901-4, a high-quality SDI delay module. The DLY-3901 is fully configurable and provides a variable delay of the input SDI (including HANC and VANC) video by up to four seconds. The DLY-3901 is ideal for applications requiring video delay in a compact modular package.
Leitch will unveil a next-generation CCS (Command Control System) panel. This panel will be able to communicate in real time with NEO, 6800+, and X75 processing products as well as Leitch routers. The panel will also be able to communicate with Panacea and Integrator routers in real time. It will provide a color display, four knobs for parametric range adjustments, soft menu keys and dynamic LCD navigation buttons. Users may customize the panel to display only those parameters that are relevant to their operations.
Also at NAB will be CCS-TRAX, a unique application that integrates the operation of routers and processing products. CCS-TRAX exploits synergies between Leitchs routers and processing equipment to streamline customer workflow and reduce error. In a typical workflow, two steps are required for an operator to correct live incoming signals before going to air: the incoming signal must first be selected with a router control panel, and the signal parameters must then be adjusted on a different control panel. Because the operator must use two different control panels to make any corrections to the incoming signal, it is possible to inadvertently adjust a signal that is already on air. With CCS-TRAX, the moment the operator selects the incoming signal with the router control panel, the associated audio and video controls immediately appear on the processing control panel, thereby eliminating the possibility of mistake. By simplifying and accelerating access to the correct controls, CCS-TRAX significantly improves the workflow efficiency in master control operations.
Integral SNMP support is important for facility-wide monitoring applications. SNMP will also offer an industry-standard way to address interoperability between multiple vendors. NEO, 6800+ and the X75 will offer SNMP support, direct to the frame. Panacea routers will also offer SNMP support, direct to the frame.
Leitchs Panacea Clean/Quiet Switch and Panacea Lite will be demonstrated. Panacea Clean Switch is the industrys most powerful clean video with embedded audio routing switcher ? providing more features, functions and signal outputs than any similar product available today. Delivering master control features at a router price, the Panacea Clean/Quiet Switch is the only clean routing switcher that provides simulcast of SD and HD, switch transitions and auxiliary outputs. Panacea Lite is one of the most compact 12x1 routers for utility routing applications available today. Featuring the widest format range in the industry in a 1RU frame, Panacea Lite is available as a dual format router (analog video and audio, SD video and AES, HD video and AES router), or in standalone formats (analog video, analog audio, SD video, HD).
Video Display Technology
Leitchs two new NEO SuiteView multi-viewer solutions are capable of rendering video and computer signals in real time to high-resolution computer monitors, plasma displays or projection display systems. Based on the NEO platform, NEO SuiteView is scalable from 4 to 44 standard- or high-definition inputs in 3RU or from 4 to 12 inputs in a compact 1RU offering and offers the capability to drive multiple displays with the same frame. The new NEO SuiteView Solo offers much of the same functionality with up to 12 inputs in a compact 1RU frame. The complete line of SuiteView multi-viewers is now fully integrated with Leitch's Command Control System (CCS), allowing users to create a customized, system-wide monitoring solution for 24/7 operation.
The NEXIO HD server brings to market the first software-based agile codec for high-definition video. Based on a new high-performance, true 64-bit dual processor platform, this new technology allows the integration of baseband high-definition record and playback directly into the NEXIO server system. The NEXIO HD platform, NX4200HDX, provides two channels of HD output (decoding), or one channel of input (encoding) and one HD output in either 720p or 1080i format. Initial decoding for outputs support MPEG-2 main-level, main-profile and main-level, and 4:2:2 profile. On the encoding side, initial support is for MPEG2 I-frame at high level and 4:2:2 profile at 50Mbps, with other formats such as Panasonics DVCPRO-100 HD to follow. Using the NEXIO MTS MPEG Transport Stream server, it is possible to ingest HD content pre-compressed by best-in-class transmission encoders, which can then be played back through the HD-SDI baseband output of the NEXIO HD platform.
The post production product group of Leitch will be unveiling a new software release for the acclaimed VelocityHD format-flexible HD/SD non-linear editing system. The initial version of VelocityHD won six awards at last years NAB, and the new version features a wide range of enhancements including HDV and Varicam support. VelocityHD brings guaranteed, full-quality, real-time editing performance to the HD realm affordably. Features include full-quality HD playback of two video streams (compressed or uncompressed), two dynamic graphics streams, true real-time HD transitions and effects, optional 3D effects, and extensive SD performance.
