Legendary UW, WSU Quarterbacks Rally Support for Local USO, Military

Brock Huard, Jack Thompson Appeal to Area Businesses, Alumni and Fans to Support Local Military, Sponsor Annual USO Puget Sound Area Golf Classic 2012 (March 20, 2012)

SEATTLE, WA -- (Marketwire) -- 03/20/12 -- One ball. One shot. A historic in-state rivalry hangs in the balance. Legendary UW and WSU Quarterbacks Brock Huard and Jack Thompson are 'putting' Husky-Cougar pride to the test at this year's USOPSA Golf Classic to benefit local military.

Huard and Thompson will square off in a putting contest and tournament play at the USO's 17th Annual 'Red, White & Blue Golf Classic,' May 22 at The Golf Club at Newcastle. Both men are encouraging area businesses, alumni and fans to sponsor the USO tournament, dinner and auction as a symbol of school pride and civic patriotism.

"No matter where your sports loyalties lie, we all love this country and appreciate the brave men and women that serve in our armed forces," said Brock Huard, co-host of The Brock and Salk Show on 710 ESPN Seattle, and former UW, NFL quarterback.

Individual and corporate sponsors can select their level of support and school affiliation on the USOPSA event website at All proceeds will benefit the USO and provide free programs and services for local military.

"Supporting USO Puget Sound Area is a great way to say thank you and honor the service and sacrifice of our military," said Jack Thompson, former WSU, NFL quarterback.

USOPSA expects this year's tournament to be the largest and most successful in the organization's 46-year history, with more than 300 golfers on two courses, including 100 active-duty military and wounded warriors. Six all-military teams will compete for top honors and the USOPSA Military Cup.

Prior to the tournament, golfers and attendees will enjoy an opening ceremony and luncheon featuring; a Korean War-era M*A*S*H* unit, the presentation of the colors, a performance of the National Anthem, an aircraft flyover, an 18-gun salute, a marching band, and a putting contest featuring a one-shot each shootout between Huard and Thompson. The Brock and Salk Show on 710 ESPN Seattle will also broadcast live from Newcastle from 9 a.m. to Noon on May 22.
