Legendary Songwriter and GI Jams Co-Founder Denny Randell Nominated for Induction to the Songwriters Hall of Fame

(October 27, 2011)

LOS ANGELES, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 10/27/11 -- Veteran songwriter and GI Jams ® co-founder Denny Randell is a 2012 nominee for induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. Randell has collaborated with many songwriting partners, including co-nominee Sandy Linzer and with Bob Crewe. Randell's catalogue with Linzer includes "A Lover's Concerto," "Working My Way Back To You," "Let's Hang On," "Opus 17 (Don't Worry 'Bout Me)," "Native New Yorker" and "Can't Get Enough Of You Baby."

In Randell's early career he wrote and produced a regional hit catching the attention of a top NY music publisher, who hired him as a staff songwriter and arranger. His work there led to his relationship with The Four Seasons, as an arranger/conductor and then a writer of some of their classic hits, including three in the Tony-winning Broadway show Jersey Boys.

In the late '60s Randell was with Screen Gems and in A & R and Production for Epic/CBS Records and he and Linzer wrote a number of hit songs, including "Keep The Ball Rollin" for Jay and the Techniques and wrote for many other hit artists including The Monkees.

In the '70s, Randell again teamed up with Bob Crewe, writing such hits as "Swearin To God" for Frankie Valli, "I Wanna Dance Wit'choo" for Disco Tex and, with Linzer, wrote Odyssey's classic "Native New Yorker" and "You Keep Me Dancin" by Samantha Sang.

During the '80s, Randell, collaborating with Maury Yeston, wrote for the Star Wars album "Christmas In The Stars," story by George Lucas, the "American Werewolf In London" album, both hit albums, and was a writer and producer of music for the off-Broadway hit Cloud 9.

In recent years, Randell and his songwriting partner Biddy Schippers, with whom he has written numerous dance hits, founded GI Jams, a multi-media company showcasing the songwriting talents in our U.S. Military. EMI Music now administrates and promotes the songs of GI Jams military artists worldwide. The first compilation album is available at GIJams.com.

As for Randell's SHOF nomination, eligible members have until December 12 to vote. The annual awards gala will take place at New York Marriott Marquis on June 14, 2012. To register or renew as a voting member before November 18 visit www.songhall.org/join.
