Lectra Continues Support of Education in the Apparel IndustryLectra Recently Serves as Sponsor for ITAA, Arts of Fashion and Mittelmoda Events (December 07, 2011)
ATLANTA, GA -- (Marketwire) -- 12/07/11 -- Lectra, the world leader in integrated technology solutions dedicated to industries using soft materials -- textiles, leather, industrial fabrics, and composite materials, is proud to demonstrate its continued support of the educational community in the textile and apparel industry throughout North America, by serving as a sponsor at ITAA, Arts of Fashion and Mittelmoda events this summer and fall.
Mittelmoda, held in Milan, Italy this July, is one of the most sought-after and well-known international fashion competitions for designers throughout the world. With a network of over 620 schools of fashion design in 66 countries, the competition has become a respected opportunity for exchange and comparison for international creativity. Katherine Chen, student, from the Fashion Institute of Technology (a Lectra education privileged partner) received the "Special Award Lectra Fil Rouge Defilé award," for the best collection designed by using Kaledo and featuring a touch of red (the "Fil Rouge"). In addition to the award, Katherine took home a laptop and a license of Lectra Kaledo. "I feel honored to be chosen to have received the award. I am happy to see the progress of technology and its impact on the world of design. I feel like I wanted to create/present my vision by using the Kaledo solution in a way that I felt was the most unique and thoughtful. I am very glad that professional designers can appreciate my vision in such a talented and imaginative community," commented Katherine.
During October 29-30th, Lectra was also the silver sponsor for the Fashion.Edu series during The Arts of Fashion Symposium. The Symposium is an international gathering of creative minds that come together from different sides of the field, educational and professional, to celebrate fashion, encourage innovation and learn from each other. 2011 marks the 10th anniversary of the Arts of Fashion Foundation. Sixty-five fashion design students from around the world were selected to present their creations and compete for apprenticeship opportunities with prestigious fashion houses and scholarships to study with emerging designers. Their work was showcased in three studios at SFAI.
Most recently, Lectra participated in the 2011 ITAA Annual Conference, Nov 2nd - 6th in Philadelphia, PA, sponsoring five awards for the faculty and graduate students. The International Textile and Apparel Association (ITAA) is a professional educational association composed of leading university scholars, educators and students working in the textile, apparel and merchandising disciplines, and this year's annual conference gathered hundreds of scholars, educators, and students in the textile, apparel, and merchandising disciplines in higher education.
