Le Mobile Captures Coachella with ApogeeUses 112 channels of Apogee 16X converters with Big Ben word clock (May 06, 2005)
In the six years of its existence, The Coachella Valley Music Festival has become what many consider to be one of the most important new music festivals of the era. Traditionally showcasing a wide diversity of musical genres, the 2005 Coachella celebration brought artists like Nine Inch Nails, Weezer, Chemical Brothers and Coldplay to the desert of Southern California.
Since the first show in 1999, Guy Charbonneau and Le Mobile have been capturing live performances on the main stage for a planned Coachella theatrical and DVD release. The 2005 show was the first to feature Le Mobile’s new 112 channels of Apogee 16X converters and Big Ben word clock generator on the truck’s two Pro Tools HD systems. “We are really excited to be using the Apogees on this gig,” explains Guy. “We are now in a position to capture the audio the way I know it is suppose to sound”.
Guy was also impressed with Apogee’s support and follow up: “In my business, I have to make decisions and act quickly…I know that Apogee is there whenever I need them. That kind of attention to customer support is rare these days”.
In addition to Guy’s truck handling the main stage, the mobile recording crew ‘On The Spot Recording’ was brought in to cover one of the five secondary stages. With 32 channels of AD-16X and Rosetta 800 conversion clocked to a Big Ben on their portable rig, Dylan Ankney and Jason Hicks were set up to cover the two days worth of performances armed with the best digital audio conversion available. “We were blown away at how good everything sounded just going through the Apogees. There was a tonal fullness and clarity that was instantly noticeable”, adding “it was really reminiscent of what great analog tape sounds like”.
With nearly 100 acts performing on five stages over two days, the Coachella festival has once again proven to be an important element in the quest to bring both established veterans and cutting edge new artists to the masses. Apogee is proud to be considered a pivotal part of the documentation of these incredible performers and their music.
