Latest features for ContentAgent demonstrated at NABV.3.1 Software for transcoding and file-based workflow management (April 17, 2012)
NAB, Las Vegas, April 17th... The latest v3.1 software for ContentAgent, the transcoding platform and workflow tool from ROOT6 Technology, will be shown at NAB. Managing files and associated metadata, ContentAgent is integrated with an increasing number of leading third-party applications to simplify and automate file-based workflow.
Features in v3.1 software include fully automated Avid workflow with Interplay integration, increased support for RED workflows with new colour management tools, Telestream Episode integration for ProRes editorial, and the addition of a third option for file-based automated QC with VidChecker.
The AMWA AS-11 new broadcast specification for delivery of completed content, based on the MXF format with AVC Intra for HD, is also handled in v3.1. The system can also insert the required metadata fields as defined by the standard.
ContentAgent v3.1 supports a completely automated Avid workflow including the ability to transcode clips into Avid compliant MXF files, (with technical and user defined metadata) and check these clips automatically directly into the Avid Interplay media management database. These files can then be opened by any Avid editing system connected to the database via ISIS or Unity MediaNetwork shared storage, providing the most efficient path to collaborative editing workflows.
Once editing is completed, users can configure a Send To template to create a QuickTime reference file. This can then be saved to a WatchFolder which is being constantly scanned by ContentAgent for new clips. Once a new clip is placed in the Watchfolder, ContentAgent will automatically initiate an automated workflow to encode the reference file into any number of deliverables.
ContentAgent now provides a completely automated pipeline for processing RED R3D clips for dailies, editorial and distribution. Accelerated RED R3D RAW file decoding enables faster than real-time debayering, eliminating bottlenecks when transcoding to other formats such as Avid DNxHD MXF files for dailies. ContentAgent can also be used on set to back up the original camera files.
Users are able to build repeatable workflows using ContentAgent's Workflow Designer tool, applying RED RMD colour correction settings before the system encodes to other formats. LUT's can equally be applied to DPX files and ContentAgent comes with additional colour management tools for basic gamut correction as well as conversion to and from 601 and 709 colour spaces.
For editorial, ContentAgent can preserve all RED R3D metadata fields. When the transcoded clips are imported into Avid's Media Composer, for example, all metadata is assigned to additional bin columns enabling advanced media management to be preformed within the editing environment.
In ProRes environments, v3.1 software facilitates the integration of Telestream's Episode Engine which can sit as a node in the ContentAgent workflow. Users simply set up encoding parameters on Episode and ContentAgent automates the entire process from import, either as individual files or from Watchfolders, to delivery.
In addition to Tektronix Cerify and Interra Systems Baton, the latest third-party QC tool to be integrated with ContentAgent is VidChecker. This scalable and affordable application provides broadcasters, post houses and programme distributors with a convenient, easy to use and scalable solution for automated Quality Control and the cost savings associated with automated correction.
Using ContentAgent's intuitive Workflow Designer tool, VidChecker can be dropped into an appropriate workflow where it sits as a node waiting to receive any material that needs QC. When designated files arrive they can be checked for a number of audio and video parameters in addition to specifications and characteristics, ensuring the materials meet defined broadcast quality and standards.
Once VidChecker has analysed a clip, it hands back to ContentAgent a report of its findings as metadata. If the file has passed the defined specifications, Content Agent can then progress the workflow by, for example, uploading to an ftp site or copying the file to a UNC path for delivery. If the clip has failed, ContentAgent will move the file to a Fail folder and send an email alerting the operator that an issue has been identified.
